Register your interest in Coach Education Workshops

West Yorkshire Sport has re-vamped its coach education process to make it more about you, the coach, and to ensure we are providing what you want. The new process is as follows:

Scheduled Coach & Club Education workshops

West Yorkshire Sport and other course providers will be organising and advertising the following minimum standards courses throughout the year:

  • Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport
  • Equity in your Coaching
  • Club for All
  • How to Coach Disabled People
  • Emergency First Aid

Dates and information on these and sport specific coaching courses or workshops can be found on our WY Coach Education Course Calendar. This is the most comprehensive coach education course calendar in West Yorkshire, listing the courses offered by all the major coach education providers in the county.

Other Coach & Club Education workshops:

For other Sports Coach UK and Running Sport courses we have developed an online system for coaches to register their training needs / interest in a course, venues you can attend, and days of the week you are available. Once we have enough interest we will organise the course.

Here's how it work:

  • The Coach (you) inserts the training they require, venues you can travel to and days of the week available at Coaching West Yorkshire at www.coachingwy.co.uk. At this stage you are not a committing to attend a course.
  • It is everyone’s responsibility to get as many people as possible onto Coaching West Yorkshire to register their interest in courses on the Course Availability page (the more we have the quicker courses get put on)
  • When enough people request one of the courses we offer (at the same venue and evening) we will put it on ASAP (approx 6 weeks)
  • We contact all coaches interested in that course at that venue on that day with details of the course and how to book a place on the course
  • Course is opened up and marketed to all coaches through Coaching West Yorkshire

We hope this new process means we will put on the courses you need at the venues and times you decide, but we need as many of you as possible to tell us what you want. Please register ASAP on www.coachingwy.co.uk to begin the process of making coach education in West Yorkshire based around our coaches.

For more information on how to complete any of the above steps please read on... or see our quick guide.

How do I let you know about what training I need?

Firstly you will need to register an account at  www.coachingwy.co.uk. To do this please visit the site, click “Register as a coach” and complete a profile on yourself and your current coaching qualifications and activity.

Once this is done when you log in, on your coach’s homepage, there is a green button called “Course Availability”. This will take you to a page where you will be asked to input:

  • What training courses you want (from a list of what we provide)
  • Which of 5 locations you would travel to for that course
  • Which evenings of the week or weekend days that you would be available to attend that course

This will submit your request into a table you can view and edit. Once 16 people request a course at the same location and day we will put the course on ASAP for you.

How do I then book onto a training course?

You will receive an email when a training course is arranged based on your request, this will include details of how and where to book your place. Usually you will then need to go back to www.coachingwy.co.uk and log-into your account to book using the “Book an Event” green buttons on your home page. That will take you to a list of events that are currently available to book onto, view the details then click on the "Book" button. If the event requires payment the details of how to pay will be on the event details page.

We may arrange the course through one of our partners (eg Carnegie Coach Education or the University of Leeds) so you will need to book with them, but this will be clear in the information we send to you when a course is being arranged.

Please call 01484 234087 or email wys.admin@wysport.co.uk or read on below if you have any further questions...

How do I pay for a course run by West Yorkshrie Sport?

Can I pay for a course online?

At the moment we are not able to accept online payments. We are working to develop this option as soon as we possibly can.

I am not a coach and want to book onto / register interest in a course

You can still register on www.coachingwy.co.uk and book your course as we are expanding our system to include and support sports volunteers too.

I am a coach, but do not feel able to book a course/put in my required training online

If this is the case, please call 01484 234087 and a member of staff will take information from you over the phone to complete a profile, and either book you on a course or take details of your training need. (Please be patient as this may take a few minutes).

What if I can't attend a course once I have booked onto it?

By booking on a coach education course with West Yorkshire Sport you agree to our terms and conditions. These are set out on the details of each course. If you cancel your place 5 working days or less before the course no refund will be given.

Why have you changed this process?

For a number of reasons:

  • Many of the courses we planned over the last year were cancelled mainly due to a lack of coaches for the course, which was unacceptable for everyone concerned.
  • We want to make our Coach Education process about what you want as a coach
  • We see this new process as time saving for all involved (once the new process is understood by everyone) and simpler to use.
